What is meant by ethical, sustainable, and responsible? Why is it so important?
Ethics is simply about decision making and choices. What is the line that you will not cross? On a personal, household or business level, what are your values? As a business, being ethical can look like, treating yourself and others well, choosing to work with people who also have good standards, and prioritising quality over profit.
Sustainability is thinking long-term. What consequences will today's decisions have in a year, ten years, or thirty years? Are the materials you use able to be reduced, reused or recycled?
Responsibility is owning the consequences of your decisions. Acknowledging your impact. If I choose to go against my values, I will be the first to admit it. Integrity is often undervalued yet it is the backbone of the social responsibility movement.
And most importantly, why? Why take on these values at all? Because they matter, they matter to more and more people everyday who are slowing becoming powerful enough to outvote very large historical institutions of power. 'The people' vote with their own choices, and if you want to be one of them, or even if you just want to be the change in the world, you need to look at your decision making processes.
